Custom Fabricated Steel & Aluminum Shelving Units for the Educational Industry

Tarpenning-LaFollette Company, Inc. custom fabricated these featured steel and aluminum shelving units for use within a school. In addition to galvanized steel and extruded aluminum, we used plastic laminate and adjustable shelving. The unit consisted of three main components: the steel shelving, an extruded aluminum grill, and a laminate top. To manufacture the shelving units, we employed a combination of cutting, bending, forming, and riveting, before final assembly. The shelving steel consisted of varying thicknesses, including 16, 18, 20, and 24 gauge steel. The extruded aluminum grill measured 4" to 4.50" wide, and the laminate top featured a thickness from .125" to 1.25" with a 3mm PVC edge.

After fabrication, the shelving steel was spray painted to achieve a 1.5 to 2.5 mils thick coat, and we adhered to ASTM D3363 2H hardness and ASTM D 3359 testing requirements. The aluminum grill was coated with a clear anodized finish.

The shelving units also included chromed door pulls and bottom guides, nylon sliding door supports, locks, and rubber door bumpers. When we were certain we had met and surpassed all of our client's expectations, we delivered and installed the shelving units for our client in the educational industry.
