Custom Fabricated Steel Sheet Metal Heater Enclosure for the Government

When Tarpenning-LaFollette Company, Inc. was contacted by a client in Rockville, Maryland to manufacture a custom fabricated steel sheet metal heater enclosure for the government, we immediately set to work. Beginning with a customer-supplied print and a 2D CAD drawing, we ensured the design was sound and met our client's standards. We then used 16 gauge galvanized steel sheet to manufacture the body of the metal heater enclosure, with a combination of laser cutting, bending, forming, spot welding, riveting, shearing, and MIG welding. The grill was manufactured from aluminum.

After manufacturing, we applied several finishing operations. We used a metallic phosphate surface preparation for the body, and then painted it with a clay beige gloss finish-we adhered to ASTM D 33569 finish testing and ASTM D 3363 hardness standards. The grill received a clear anodized finish.

We included several special features, such as threaded cadmium plated leveled legs with shoes, and built in straps and brackets for support and anchorage. The final component measured 45" long, 16" high, 17.406" wide, with a 53.125" radius. After the 5 component order was completed, we delivered the sheet metal heater enclosures to our client. The entire project ran 6 weeks.
